When homeowners get three tree removal quotes, the spread is often enormous — and the low bid isn't cheaper, it's smaller. The cutting is a similar amount of work for everybody. What differs is everything around the cutting.
Ask whether debris removal is included. Some quotes cover felling the tree and nothing else, leaving you with a trunk in six-foot sections and a brush pile the size of a car. Hauling that away afterward costs more than including it would have. Get it in writing either way.
Ask whether the stump is in or out. Stump grinding is genuinely a separate service with a separate machine, so it's fair for it to be a separate line — but it should be a line, priced, not a surprise conversation on the day.
Ask about insurance, and ask to see the certificate rather than taking the word. If an uninsured crew damages your roof or, far worse, someone on that crew gets hurt in your yard, the exposure can land on your homeowner's policy. This is the single most important question and the one most people skip.
Ask how they're getting the tree down. 'We'll drop it' and 'we'll rig it down in sections' are different amounts of labor for a reason. If a tree is over a roof, a fence, or a septic field, the cheap answer is cheap because it's transferring risk to you.
Finally, ask what the yard looks like when they leave. Raked, blown, ruts filled, driveway swept? Or cut and gone? At AJ Tree Expert and Landscape, that cleanup is in the number we quote — never an add-on. Call (610) 698-5582 and we'll walk your property and put it in writing.
